Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 30, 2026
PhotoCatalog is a local desktop application. We believe privacy is a fundamental right. This policy explains what data we access, how we use it, and what we never do with it.
1. What PhotoCatalog Does
PhotoCatalog is a Windows desktop application for organizing, tagging, and searching your personal photo collection. It runs locally on your computer and connects to Google Drive only when you explicitly authorize it.
2. Data We Access
When you connect your Google Account, PhotoCatalog requests the following permissions:
- Google Drive (read-only) — to display thumbnails and browse your photo folders. We never modify, delete, or upload files to your Drive.
- Basic profile information — your name and profile picture, displayed in the app sidebar so you know which account is connected.
- Email address — used solely to identify your account session locally.
3. Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your computer only:
- Photo tags and metadata — stored in a local SQLite database on your device
- Thumbnail cache — stored in a local folder on your device
- Google OAuth token — stored in your AppData folder, encrypted by the operating system
- App settings — stored in a local configuration file
We do not operate servers that store your personal data, photos, or tags.
4. What We Never Do
- We never upload your photos to any server
- We never share your data with third parties
- We never sell, rent, or monetize your personal information
- We never modify files in your Google Drive
- We never track your usage analytics or behavior
- We never display advertisements
5. Google API Services
PhotoCatalog's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Specifically: data received from Google APIs is used only to provide and improve the core functionality of PhotoCatalog (browsing and displaying your photos). It is not used for serving advertisements, for data mining, or for any other purpose.
6. Third-Party Services
PhotoCatalog integrates with Google Drive API. When connected, your interactions with Google Drive are subject to Google's Privacy Policy. You can revoke PhotoCatalog's access at any time via your Google Account settings.
7. Children's Privacy
PhotoCatalog is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
